The Mirror: Grinding, Polishing, Figuring

In regular visits through the winter I began the grinding, polishing, and figuring the mirror blank to astronomical standards. After forty-five hours of my “pushing glass,” the experts declared the mirror finished once it reached 1/6 wavelength through Foucault testing.

The mirror, just returned from Majestic Optical, with Al/SiO coating. The “blemish” on the surface is the reflection of something on the basement ceiling.

The JTK-2, returned from Majestic Optical, with its fresh Al/SiO coatings. Just like Xmas: wrapping paper everywhere!

I sent the mirror to Majestic Optical for coating (Al/SiO). It was back within a week, coated and ready to be mounted.
